Yale and August join forces to create a better smart lock

Now that Yale locks and August smart locks are owned by the same company, the two are combining forces. The Yale Assure lock lineup, which already had several different ways to work with wireless protocols, is adding a module that will allow them to use August's smart technology. If you already own an Assure lock by Yale, you will just need this $129 module to connect it to Alexa, Google Assistant, or Siri. It will also add August's smart unlocking features, which will unlock your door when you get close and has a dozen built-in safeguards to keep it from unlocking when you're not.

If you don't already have a Yale lock, but you are interested in smart locks, keep an eye out. Soon enough Yale will start selling versions of the Assure Lock SL and Assure Lock Touchscreen with August's technology already built in. These locks will retail at $299 and $279 respectively and be available starting in October.

Again, these locks will work with all three smart home hubs, so you might want to get an Echo Dot, Google Home Mini, or Apple HomePod to control them with your voice. You'll also be able to use the August app on your smartphone for remote control.
