Yesterday, US Mobile announced that it would be selling select phones from Xiaomi and Meizu, making the devices available for the first time in the country. However, Xiaomi has mentioned that the carrier is not authorized to sell its devices, stating that there are no plans to sell any of its phones in the U.S.
From Xiaomi spokesperson Kaylene Hong:
Recent reports indicated that Xiaomi products will be available in the U.S. There are no plans to sell smartphones through any authorised distributors in the US. U.S. Mobile is not authorised to sell Xiaomi products in the U.S.
The phones being sold by US Mobile — the Redmi 2, Mi 3 and Mi 4i — are directly imported from China, and as such lack the LTE bands for T-Mobile's network, which is what US Mobile runs off of.
While Xiaomi has an online store that caters to the U.S. market, it only sells accessories through the storefront, with no mention of when phones will be available for purchase.
