Though the bigger software features may steal the show when it comes to the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, location sharing company Glympse has partnered with Samsung to offer an interesting integration into the latest flagship phones. The new integration, which is debuting on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, lets users temporarily share their location using Glympse directly from the pre-installed "Car Mode" interface or "My Places" widget on the phone.
From Car Mode, users can use voice controls or large easy-to-use buttons to quickly share their location for a limited duration to anyone in their contact list. In the My Places widget, you can instantly share your location for a set period of time to favorite contacts.
In either case, the recipient doesn't need the Glympse app in order to follow your up-to-the-second progress on a map, and the duration that they can see your movements is always defined by you when you send it. With this low barrier to entry, it's amazingly easy to offer someone that peace of mind of knowing where you are during that period.
Best of all, you don't have to install anything in order to get this service up and running. The Glympse integration is ready to go right out of the box on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.
Press release:
GLYMPSE PARTNERS WITH SAMSUNG TO PROVIDE LOCATION TECHNOLOGY FOR THE GALAXY S7
Smartphone Users Can Easily Share Location From MyPlaces & Car Mode Applications
BARCELONA and SEATTLE (Mobile World Congress 2016) – February 21, 2016 – Glympse, the pioneer in real-time, temporary location sharing, today announced collaboration with Samsung to provide location technology for driving apps and services on the new Samsung Galaxy S7 smartphones. With Glympse, users can now share their current location and estimated time of arrival (ETA) with anyone in their contact list, and recipients can watch as the driver moves from place to place on a dynamic map.
"Our lives are inherently mobile; with Glympse's proven location technology, Samsung Galaxy S7 users now have the power to share where they are directly from their smartphone," said Bryan Trussel, co-founder and CEO of Glympse. "As the leader in the location sharing space, our goal is to help people use location to interact in more meaningful ways, and we look forward to working with Samsung more closely to achieve this goal in the future."
Glympse allows Galaxy S7 users to share their location from several apps, including:
- MyPlaces: Samsung's MyPlaces widget allows Galaxy S7 owners to save favorite Glympse contacts, so users can quickly and easily share their location at the touch of a button.
- Car Mode: The driver-friendly interface provides voice controls and larger button sizes to make it easy to share location with anyone by simply accessing the phones contact list, selecting a recipient, setting the timer and hitting or saying, "Share my location with [Name]." The recipient does not need to have Glympse to be able to view; they receive a link that can be opened in a mobile or web browser that allows them to view the driver's location temporarily and ETA in real-time.
While this is launching on the Galaxy S7, smartphone users with Galaxy S6 and Note 5 devices will receive a software update including Glympse in the coming months.
Glympse is the industry leader for real-time location sharing. The company currently provides location information to a variety of Fortune 500 companies, including Blackberry, BMW/MINI, Ford, Garmin, GM, Gogo, Google, Jaguar LandRover, Mercedes, Pebble, Verizon, Vodafone, Volkswagen, and Volvo.
