Cat Phones has announced their S50 model earlier this month. It's a rugged LTE smartphone designed specifically to be used outdoors and in challenging environments. It's waterproof, scratch-resistant, dustproof and can withstand more than just a few bumps and scrapes. We first played with the Cat S50 at IFA, but we met with them again last night to have a closer look. Watch our hands-on video.
A new feature has just launched for Google's social networking service Google+ that allows you to restrict your posts based on your audience's age or location. This way, you can set filters for the content you create to make sure it's not viewable by children, or that you can share your Google+ posts to your peers without the peering eyes of parents. Businesses can also use the new feature to restrict content based on where they want promotions to happen.
Tinder should really be spelled T - R - O - U - B - L - E because one of these days that's what this popular dating app is going to get me into! I love Tinder. I can't help it. It's not that I'm browsing for hook-ups or dating partners or anything like that. I'm in a relationship. I'm happy. I just find it really entertaining to swipe through photos of real people. Some people spend all day looking at photos of cats. Personally, I'd rather look at photos of women. To each their own. No judging. I have a few friends who do the same thing as me, so I know I'm not totally alone in this behavior.
The trouble with Tinder of course is that in order to browse Tinder, you need to put yourself on Tinder. And with Tinder showing matches based on your preferences of sex, age and distance from your location — up to a max of 100 mile radius — it's highly possible that somebody you know will see you on Tinder. Depending on your relationship status... well... like I said... that could spell TROUBLE when you get spotted by somebody who doesn't think you should be on Tinder. For that reason, I've only ever fired up Tinder when I'm traveling and am far away from home and those odds of being recognized are minimal.
Increasingly the camera on a smartphone figures into a buying purchase. The iPhone 6 is the new kid on the block but here in the Android space we've got plenty of competition. Our pals at iMore have put two of the big Android devices of this year, the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC One M8 up against Apple's latest and greatest.
Path Talk has launched a new feature called Places, where you can find a local business within the social networking app, and you can send an instant message to that business. That message actually goes to a Path Agent who will call on your behalf and do stuff like make a reservation, check store hours, or see if they have your size of shirt. Surprisingly enough, this service is offered for free in the U.S. and Canada.
